In 2020, the team was rebranded as Punjab Kings, and KL Rahul was appointed as the captain. The team finished sixth in the tournament, winning six out of their 14 matches.

The highest run-scorer for Punjab Kings is Shaun Marsh, who scored 2,477 runs in 71 matches. The highest wicket-taker for the team is Sandeep Sharma, who has taken 83 wickets in 79 matches. The highest individual score for Punjab Kings is 132* by KL Rahul, which he scored against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2020. The best bowling figures for the team are 5/14 by Axar Patel against Gujarat Lions in 2017. Punjab Kings holds the record for the highest total in the IPL, scoring 232/2 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021. They also hold the record for the highest partnership in the tournament, as KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal added 183 runs for the first wicket against Rajasthan Royals in 2020.
